Medicare vs. Medicaid

Two Branches of CMS

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is the government agency that oversees Medicare and Medicaid. While both services are run by the same agency and have similar names, they’re pretty different.

Medicare is a health insurance plan offered by the federal government for certain populations based on age and health issues. It doesn’t depend on income. Medicaid is an assistance program offered jointly through state and federal governments for people with low income of any age. While Medicaid isn’t a health insurance plan, it does pay for people’s healthcare as an assistance program.
